| Seven Cougars named to baseball All-District squad |
Now that the 2009 high school baseball season has wrapped up, postseason honors are being announced and the Tomball Cougars were well represented on the 13-5A All-District team.
Four Cougars were named First Team All-District after their performances in 2009, including pitcher David Rumsey, pitcher/infielder R.J. Perucki, outfielder Taylor Coleman and pitcher/infielder Tyler Smith.
Tyler Jones, Blake Willeford and Luke Plucheck were named Second Team All-District.
The 13-5A MVP Award went to Klein Collins’ Tyler Naquin, while Naquin’s head coach, Kent Meador, won Coach of the Year.
The postseason honors piled up for the Klein Collins Tigers as Cory Geisler won Newcomer of the Year, along with Klein Oak’s Travis Hennessey.
The Tigers were district champions, going 20-10 overall and 11-3 in the district.
Klein Collins placed five players on the All-District team, while Spring and Klein each placed six. Westfield and Klein Oak each had five honorees, while Dekaney and Klein Forest each had two.
The Cougars finished the season 14-8 overall and 10-4 in district, good for third place. They were knocked out of the first round of the Region 2 playoffs by 14-5A runner-up, the Lufkin Panthers. The Panthers won the series in three games and advanced all the way to the state tournament, which was held last weekend.
