Woodlands volleyball sweeps Lady Bulldogs

With district play less than two weeks away, the Magnolia Lady Bulldogs were preparing for the stiff competition they’ll likely face in the coming months with an Aug. 25 test against 5A elite The Woodlands.

The No. 4 state-ranked Lady Bulldogs played gracious hosts to the Lady Highlanders, letting the visitors take home a three-game sweep victory

The Woodlands set the tone early, winning the first set 25-18 and extended their dominance in the second set, 25-12. The Lady Bulldogs would come a little closer in the third set, but the outcome was the same, as they dropped the clincher 25-22.

The loss was only the second of the season for Magnolia, as the defending Regional Champions and state qualifiers sat at 11-2 overall at press time last week.

Katzy Randall led the Lady Bulldogs in kills with nine, while Courtney Felinski (six), Paige Holland (five), Kylie Randall (four) and Chelsea Reynolds (two) also chipped in scores.

Randall also led her squad in digs with 12, while Holland added 11 and Madison Kosir carded seven. Holland enjoyed an outstanding night on assists with 19. She also had the Lady Bulldogs’ lone serving ace.

Magnolia participated in the elite Pearland Varsity Tournament over the weekend. Results of those matches were unavailable at press time. Their next home game is Sept. 4 when the Lady Bulldogs take on College Park at 5:30 p.m.

The Lady Bulldogs open district play when they host cross-town rival Magnolia West Sept. 11 at 6 p.m.
