Waller Bulldogs place 11 on All-District team

The 18-4A All-District team was announced recently and the Waller Bulldogs were rewarded with several selections despite having a losing overall record while still qualifying for the playoffs.

Eleven Bulldogs were named to either the first or second team All-District squad after going 5-7 overall, but 4-3 in district. Waller qualified as the district’s fourth place team and won its first round playoff game over Lockhart before falling Dayton in the second round.

Defensive Newcomer of the Year was defensive tackle Jordan Hamilton.

Quarterback Miller Pierce, lineman Jason Lafferty, defensive end Jordan Ondijo and cornerback Chad Madden earned first team recognition, while defensive end Darius Nash, lineman Jacobie White, linebackers Keith White and David McDade, safety BJ Kwiatowski and utility specialist Christ Tompkins earned second team honors.

After a 5-5 season, the Magnolia Bulldogs saw two of its players earn All-District nods, lead by Newcomer of the Year Chance David. David was the Bulldogs’ second leading rusher, going for 703 yards on 109 carries.

Running back Dennis Dunbar earned first team honors after a 2009 season that saw him rush for 731 yards on 93 carries for an outstanding 7.8 yards per carry. Dunbar was the lone Bulldog to get first team recognition.

After what can certainly be considered a breakout season for Magnolia West, the 4-6 Mustangs placed four players on the All-District team. Earning first team recognition were fullback Dustin Corkran and tight end Joey Johnson.

Corkran was the Mustangs’ second leading rusher, running for 467 yards on 92 carries in 2009.
