Waller ISD Superintendent McReavy announces retirement

mcreavy Waller ISD Superintendent Richard McReavy recently announced that he plans to retire in June 2010, after serving 40 years in education. McReavy made the announcement at the December WISD Board Meeting.

“I have the best job in the world,” McReavy said. “It is the most challenging job I have ever had and the most rewarding. I have an outstanding Board, excellent principals and directors, and Assistant Superintendents, with great teachers and staff, fantastic students and tremendous community support. Now is the time for a transition for Waller ISD.”

McReavy served for 16 years as principal of Reagan County High School and eight years as math teacher and coach in both Reagan County ISD and Northside ISD in San Antonio. McReavy left his hometown community and moved to Waller ISD to serve as principal of Waller High School for two years and Assistant Superintendent for Administration for five years.

McReavy has been instrumental in the changes of Waller ISD during his eight-year tenure as Superintendent. McReavy has led the district through a 20 percent increase in enrollment and the passage of the last four Waller ISD bond elections. Waller ISD has successfully completed more than $100 million of bond construction projects to accommodate the student growth.

Numerous bond construction projects were completed, such as the opening of a new Waller High School, Fields Store Elementary, Evelyn Turlington Elementary, the new Waller ISD Stadium, renovations to Waller Junior High and Schultz Junior High, improvements to H.T. Jones Elementary, Roberts Road Elementary, Holleman Elementary and to facilities district-wide to accommodate for future growth needs. The most recent bond construction project underway is a Technology Center.

The academic success of Waller ISD students is the highest ever. All Waller ISD elementary and middle schools have been named “Recognized” or “Exemplary” by the Texas Education Agency.

“The best part of my job is having the opportunity to always help children and others,” McReavy said.  After retirement, McReavy plans to travel with his wife Sharon, also a 40-year educator and will continue to stay actively involved within the Waller ISD community.
