| New Magnolia West head football coach named |
|
The Magnolia ISD school board approved naming Shawn Bell as the new head football coach for Magnolia West High School (MWHS) at a special meeting the morning of Feb. 12. The hiring comes on the heels of former head coach David Joiner’s resignation Jan. 14 after a district transfer to a MISD middle school that left many parents and students upset. “We’re excited he accepted his position here, I think he’ll bring a lot of excitement and expertise to the game for the program,” said Superintendent Dr. Todd Stephens about Bell last week. Bell, 26, was the quarterback for Baylor University from 2003 to 2006. In his last season, he set a school record for passing yards in a comeback win against the University of Kansas when he threw for 394 yards, according to the Baylor Lariat. The former Baylor Bear was most recently head coach and athletic director at Clifton High School. Prior to that, he was offensive coordinator for China Springs High School and a varsity wide receiver coach for Round Rock-Stony Point High School, according to an MISD press release. A reception for Bell will be held at the MWHS library on Tuesday, Feb. 16 beginning at 5:30 p.m.
