| Magnolia swimmers win titles, set records at state tournament |

Magnolia’s Mackenzie Childs earned a state title in the 100 freestyle race, while teammate Matt Korman finished runner-up in the 200 individual medley and in the 100 Breaststroke. Laykin Lowry earned two third place finishes, one each in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle. The Bulldog girls 400 freestyle relay finished second in state. The girls’ 200 medley relay team of Erin Plachy, Lauren Benner, Laykin Lowry and Maclane Fulvio got the meet started out well with an eighth place finish. Immediately following the relay, Lowry had a courageous 200 freestyle race, taking third place while recovering from a stomach virus. In the 200 individual medley, Plachy took eighth place after breaking the school record during prelims and Matt Korman shattered the school record to take second place overall. Childs took sixth in the 50 freestyle and showed her mastery of the sprint events as she took the 100 freestyle state title a few events later in school record time. In one meter diving, Collette Moeder took 16th in the State for the girls and Spencer Mather took sixth overall for the boys. Lowry again put in a strong performance in the 500 freestyle to take third place. While Childs had broken the oldest record on the record board in the 50 freestyle less than an hour before the 200 freestyle relay, Plachy lead off the relay breaking Childs’ new record by five one-hundredths of a second. For Magnolia West, Allie Sullins had an outstanding meet placing ninth in the 100 butterfly and earned the State title in the 100 backstroke. Both of her events were new school records while Sullins’100 backstroke she set a new state record. Erin Giles placed ninth in the 50 freestlye, setting a new school record. She also had the fastest time in the state for a freshman.
