MWHS soccer player hospitalized after collapsing during practice

A Magnolia West High School boys’ soccer player remained hospitalized and in stable condition as of press time last week after collapsing during a March 3 practice.

The boy, a member of the Mustangs’ junior varsity team, collapsed on the sideline during the team’s practice after school.

A statement released by Magnolia ISD stated that an athletic trainer performed CPR on the player and used an AED defibrillator before he was transferred to a local hospital.

MISD Communications Specialist Charlie Brown said last week that although the boy was stable, he was still in critical care.

“It’s not negative, but it’s not positive,” Brown said. “He is stable and he squeezed his mom’s hand when she talked to him.”

The hospital had considered transferring the boy to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston but decided against it, Brown said.
