At a March 9 MISD board meeting, Bryan Cooper, the MWHS athletic trainer who administered CPR and used an Automated External Defibrillator (AEB) device on the junior varsity player after his collapse, was honored by the board for helping to save the boy’s life.

School Board officials presented Cooper with a plaque and a framed newspaper article to recognize the swift action he took after the player’s collapse.

.“I talked to the student today and he’s in great spirits,” Cooper said at the meeting.

When he got to the player, he was not breathing and had a faint pulse. Through CPR and an AEB, he was able to revive the player, Cooper said.

Cooper credited the school, which has an emergency action plan in place in case of emergency and the soccer teams’ coaches and other staff members as playing important roles in helping the player as well.

He also credited Magnolia’s EMS and fire rescue for their quickness in arriving at the field.
